RELATIONS BETWEEN NATURE AND LOCAL COMMUNITIES FOR WATER SAFETY
RELATIONS BETWEEN NATURE AND LOCAL COMMUNITIES FOR WATER SAFETY
Contextualization
The session discussed the challenges of the relationship between nature and local actions, intending to ensure water security. Questions were raised about nature-based solutions (often mystified and internationally recognized); on green infrastructure, in which the association between conservation of critical areas and improvement of water quality is noted; agroforestry, which besides producing food performs the function of recovering our water reserves; the economics of restoration and the strengthening of the forest culture of our planet.
Recommendations
It is recommended: the adoption of nature-based solutions and the benefits of agroforestry agriculture and technologies for reuse and water use efficiency; spring protection, demand management rebalancing; study the forms of recovery of biomes, such as cerrado, pampa, caatinga, because what we know most is about the recovery of Atlantic forest; restoration of basins in priority areas and comparing the outcome of an action that is likely to bring better water regulation and return water to critical moments; sedimentation reduction; increased soil water retention capacity through forest condensing capacity; combine conservation with production; the use of organic matter in soil recovery; agroecological knowledge from an early age; and guarantee the farmer the right to the land and creole seed.
Conclusions
It is necessary to work on mechanisms that help in decision-making and promote water regulation and sediment retention practices. Adopting non-conventional solutions such as reuse technologies, nature-based solutions, and studies of new forms of recovery are essential for a peaceful relationship between nature and local communities.
